SIG in collaboration with the Bantul and Gunung Kidul Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD Kabupaten Bantul and Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta) distributed building material assistance in the form of cement to repair the residents home, educational facilities and houses of worship affected by the earthquake on June 30, 2023. The assistance was handed over on Thursday, 6 July 2023 and has been distributed to 32 locations spread across 8 sub-districts in Bantul Regency and 3 sub-districts in Gunung Kidul Regency.
The Chief Executive of BPBD Gunung Kidul, Purwono said the earthquake that rocked Yogyakarta on June 30 2023 had caused damage to residents home and a number of public facilities, such as schools and houses of worship. The types of damage that were commonly found, such as cracked walls, collapsed walls, as well as collapsed tiles and ceilings. So the cement assistance from SIG is very helpful in the repair process so that it can be lived in and used safely.
"I thank and appreciated SIG's concern that has moved quickly to distribute the assistance. Disaster is a humanitarian issue and it’s all about concern fir other, so we can strengthen each other through social activities and mutual cooperation in the community," Purwono said.
One of the beneficiaries, Ms. Boniyem (73 years) looked very happy when the team from SIG's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and BPBD Bantul visited her house in Ngemplak, Srigading, Sanden, Bantul Regency. The damage that happened to her home due to the earthquake was indeed recorded as the worst compared to other beneficiaries. Not only were there cracks, the walls in several parts of the home also almost collapsed, so they had to be supported with wood. Some of the roofs and tiles also collapsed, and a number of doors and windows were also not precise due to the shifting position of the walls.
As a result of the severe damage to her home, Ms. Boniyem is currently taking refuge in her sister's home which is not far from her home, because she is worried that her home might collapse at any time. "I thank SIG for the assistance. Hopefully it can repair the damage so I can return to my home and live safely,” Mrs. Boniyem said.
Ms. Sarni (52 years), a resident of Tambakrejo, Sodo, Paliyan, Gunung Kidul Regency, conveyed the same thing. This woman who works as a tampah craftsman is very grateful to receive assistance from SIG for repairing her home. "Thank you very much SIG for the cement assistance, so we can immediately repair the home to be occupied again," Ms. Sarni said.
The Corporate Secretary of SIG, Vita Mahreyni said that the assistance distributed through the TJSL program was a form of SIG's concern for residents affected by the earthquake in Bantul and Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta. "As a state-owned company, SIG is committed to always being present as a solution for the community, especially since this earthquake caused damage to residents' homes. Hopefully the cement assistance from SIG will help the repair process be completed quickly and be durable for protection for homeowners in the future," Vita Mahreyni said.
