The Government of Indonesia Names Two SIG Subsidiaries as Industry 4.0 National Lighthouse for the Success in Digital Transformation
23-02-2024
The success of carrying out the Industry 4.0 transformation has led to two subsidiaries of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG), namely PT Semen Tonasa and PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk (SBI), being selected as Industry 4.0 National Lighthouse at the Lighthouse Industry 4.0 awarding event held by the Ministry Industry.
The Lighthouse Industry 4.0 Charter was handed over by the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita to the SIG President Director, Donny Arsal and SIG Operations Director, Reni Wulandari, at the JS Luwansa Hotel, Kuningan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (21/2/2024).
The Lighthouse Industry 4.0 Award is given to companies that are considered capable of being role model for other industries in the transformation and implementation of Industry 4.0 to encourage financial/economic, operational and technological impacts. Companies designated as Industry 4.0 Lighthouses are also considered capable of acting as a reference for other industries in implementing Industry 4.0 technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), additive manufacturing and advanced analytics, as well as improving production systems.
PT Semen Tonasa was selected as the Industry 4.0 National Lighthouse for its Operational Excellence (Energy Management) use case through the application of Expert Optimizer technology and the Tonasa Energy Management Center (TEMC) based on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Predictive Control Models. Meanwhile, SBI was selected as the National Lighthouse Industry 4.0 for its Integrated Waste Management use case through the implementation of integrated RDF (Refuse-Derived Fuel) Data Analytics and Nathabumi E-Performance technology.
SIG President Director, Donny Arsal said, as the leading building materials company in Indonesia, SIG always focuses on carrying out technology-based industrial transformation which is the Company's competitive advantage to increase competitiveness and maintain market leadership.
"The naming of PT Semen Tonasa and SBI as Industry 4.0 National Lighthouse is recognition of the success of the Industry 4.0 transformation within the SIG Group. SIG is committed to continuing to innovate to create breakthroughs in business processes through the application of integrated and comprehensive technology to achieve supply chain optimization," said Donny Arsal.
Meanwhile, SIG Operations Director, Reni Wulandari said that SIG's Industry 4.0 transformation journey had begun in 2011 through the implementation of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), implementation of the Plant Information System, comprehensive business process improvements, and implementation of digitalization initiatives for core and supporting businesses.
"After the designation of PT Semen Tonasa and SBI as companies with the title of Industry 4.0 National Lighthouse in Indonesia and in line with the BUMN Ministry's road map, SIG will continue to create technology-based innovations towards the Industry 4.0 Global Lighthouse Network," said Reni Wulandari.
In the Operational Excellence (Energy Management) use case carried out by PT Semen Tonasa, the application of Expert Optimizer technology will support the stabilization and optimization of cement production process parameters. Expert Optimizer has been applied in the production process at the raw mill, kiln and cement mill at Plant Tonasa 5. This technology has been proven to have an impact on increasing production capacity by up to 3.18%, as well as reducing specific thermal energy consumption by 1.76% and on specific electrical energy consumption up to 2.63%.
While the Tonasa Energy Management Center (TEMC) at PT Semen Tonasa is an AI-based corporate energy control center that can manage and integrate all energy-related data, resulting in real-time dashboards and reporting, as well as recommendations for optimal operating parameters. Through TEMC, PT Semen Tonasa succeeded in saving energy usage of up to 4,899 Terajoules (TJ) or the equivalent of 167,228 tonnes of coal which contributed to energy cost savings, as well as reducing CO2 emissions by 488,000 tonnes.
The Integrated Waste Management use case implemented by SBI through the Nathabumi waste management business unit aims to increase supply and optimize productivity at the Cilacap RDF Plant operations. RDF is an alternative fuel produced from urban waste management. This solution not only helps the government overcome the waste problem, but also supports the creation of a healthy environment, while providing economic benefits.
The application of RDF Data Analytics and Nathabumi E-Performance technology has had a positive impact on increasing RDF supply by 10%, RDF plant productivity by 67%, and business partners by 25%. In environmental and social aspects, this technology has helped reduce coal consumption by 1,800 tons and CO2 emission levels by 2,100 tons, as well as increasing waste absorption in Cilacap City by 20%.
As part of sustainable improvement, SIG continues to accelerate digital transformation, by replicating the implementation of proven Industry 4.0 technology (Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Augmented Reality) in one factory to another.
