Commitment to Sustainable Environmental Management, SIG Wins Five Subroto Awards from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources

The commitment of PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) in environmental management, community empowerment and sustainable energy was again appreciated by winning five Subroto Awards from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).

The award won by SIG, namely the Innovative Mineral Development and Community Empowerment Program (PPM) for the Innovative PPM Category for Non-Metal Mineral Commodities, Subcategory for Increasing Real Income and Employment, for the Tuban Plant SIG. Innovative Mineral Development and Community Empowerment Program (PPM) for the Innovative Non-Metal Mineral Commodity PPM Category, Economic Independence Sub-category for PT Semen Gresik Rembang Factory, and Effective Mineral and Coal Mining Technology Innovation towards Net Zero Emission (NZE) categories for IUP and IUPK for Non-Metal Minerals and Rocks for Rembang Plant GIS. The award was handed over by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Arifin Tasrif to the President Director of SIG, Donny Arsal at the Subroto 2022 Award Ceremony, virtually, on Tuesday (4/10) in Jakarta.

While the other two awards are the Energy Management Category in Industry and Building, the Large Industry Sub Category and the Energy Management Special Innovation Sub Category for PT Semen Tonasa. The award was handed over at the 2022 Subroto Energy Efficiency Award (PSBE) award procession, at Chairul Saleh Building, Secretariat General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/10).

The Subroto Award is the highest award in the Energy and Mineral Resources sector given by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to stakeholders who have performed very well in advancing the Energy and Mineral Resources sector in Indonesia.

SIG Corporate Secretary Vita Mahreyni said, the success in obtaining this award cannot be separated from SIG's commitment to continue to innovate in providing sustainable benefits for society and the environment.

"The Greenbelt Program which has succeeded in bringing GIS to win the Innovative Mineral Development and Community Empowerment Program (PPM) category is an innovation to increase the technical capacity of greenbelt farmers' knowledge to be more productive, effective, efficient and environmentally friendly, thereby improving the economy and welfare of the fostered farmers" , said Vita Mahreyni.

The Award for Effective Mineral and Coal Mining Technology Innovation Towards Net Zero Emission (NZE), was won for water conservation efforts carried out through the utilization of a 15,000 m3 reservoir in Rembang Regency to support agriculture, and PT Semen Gresik's horticultural and edupark plantations. Water conservation efforts are carried out with the rain withdrawal method and are accommodated in the reservoir which is located at the highest elevation in the edupark area, then attributed to the surrounding agricultural land.

Meanwhile, the implementation of an ISO 50001:2018-based energy management system at PT Semen Tonasa also won the Subroto Award for Efficiency and Energy (PSBE). Several energy efficiency programs that have been carried out include lowering the top preheater temperature, increasing the use of alternative fuels, efficient use of heat in the kiln and cooler areas, using high momentum burners, installing solar panels, coal unloading and mixing systems, and several other programs.

Cumulatively, energy savings from 2019 to 2021 at PT Semen Tonasa are 3,801,598 GJ. This value is equivalent to a cost savings of IDR 212 billion and a reduction in CO2 emissions of 379,088 tons of CO2.
