27-09-2022

PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) is collaborating with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate digital transformation by utilizing Cloud Technology. This collaboration is carried out to improve the reliability, flexibility and security of information and communication technology systems owned by GIS.

As a leading provider of building materials solutions in Indonesia, SIG has operational areas spread across Indonesia and Vietnam, including integrated cement factories in 8 locations, packaging factories in 26 locations, 6 cement mills and 7 ports, with distribution channels supported by 306 distributors both in Indonesia and in Vietnam (TLCC) along with access to 70,000 retail building stores in Indonesia.

With a very wide operational spectrum, GIS has strategic initiatives to improve efficiency through various programs across business units. One of the initiatives undertaken is to utilize technology solutions. Cloud technology provides a variety of technology solutions needed to realize these strategic initiatives, including computing, data storage, analytics, IoT and security technologies. Cloud technology also enables GIS to handle the complexity and scalability of the Company's operations while maintaining performance and reliability.

GIS Director of Finance and Risk Management, Andriano Hosny Panangian said, GIS digital transformation focuses on key business processes ranging from production, supply chain, finance, marketing, and sales. All of these activities need to be supported by an adequate, flexible and continuously developing technology infrastructure in accordance with the needs of the Company. Considering that the use of digital technology has been accelerated by market and industry dynamics, especially by the pandemic in the last two years.

“Learning from this experience, we believe that the ability to adapt and analyze data is one of the important factors to ensure sustainability and improve the Company's competitiveness. Therefore, we strive to make data an essential part of every decision-making throughout the company's operational activities to ensure better service and fulfillment of customer needs," said Andriano Hosny Panangian.

Furthermore, Andriano Hosny Panangian said that the digital transformation carried out by GIS will not only stop at the internal scope of the Company. This digital transformation is the foundation for the Company to be able to take further initiatives to increase revenue, such as by empowering communities, optimizing distribution networks and marketing to acquire new customers. In addition, the digital transformation carried out must also be able to support the implementation of the Company's commitment to the environment and sustainable development.

SIG's Group Head Information & Communication Technology, Anindio Daneswara added, GIS utilizes cloud technology in standardizing to simplify the process of providing information technology resources and at the same time increase its security and reliability factors. GIS can also use a wide selection of technologies available in the cloud, including data processing and storage, as well as further development by leveraging the capabilities of Data Analytics and AI (artificial intelligence).

“Currently, the ICT SIG Group has successfully migrated 90% of its priority and main application systems to the cloud. This migration is expected to increase the speed of computing processes by up to 1.6 times and contribute to an increase in the efficiency of using computing resources by 20%. In general, with cost leadership from using cloud technology, we have the potential to reduce operational costs by around 30-40% and increase the security factor with technology available in the cloud,” said Anindio Daneswara. Supporting this, AWS Indonesia Country Manager, Gunawan Susanto, said, SIG was one of the first Indonesian SOEs and succeeded in migrating core application systems to the cloud using AWS Asia Pacific Jakarta Region. “Cloud technology allows digital transformation to be carried out properly because cloud technology can help an organization to obtain information technology resources according to their needs, it can foster innovation, increase agility and reliability while optimizing costs. With cloud technology, organizations can focus on customers and activities to differentiate their business and no longer need to be burdened with work to manage data center infrastructure,” said Gunawan Susanto.
